Alignment and Attunement
Yoga means to yoke or unite.
What are we uniting?
We talk about alignment a lot in yoga. How to position the body, engage muscles, bend joints, and connect the lines of the body in mindful and beneficial ways. That is an important part of yoga practice without a doubt, but there is something more.
There is something far deeper and more profound and that is the alignment of body, mind, and spirit. I like to call that attunement. Attunement means to bring into accord, harmony, or sympathetic relationship. Conscious breathing is the best tool to guide us toward attunement. Breath nourishes and sustains the body, it calms and focuses the mind, and it is a line to spirit.
Pause right now. Close your eyes. take a breath to connect with your body, take another to clear your mind, and one more to enter your own loving heart.
